The Minnesota Timberwolves have the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. Let’s look at the history of the top selection.
The Minnesota Timberwolves landed the No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft for only the second time in franchise history.

This draft is already being maligned as relatively weak at the top, but the No. 1 pick is still the No. 1 pick. Not surprisingly, the track record of the top pick is much better than any other spot in the draft’s history.

For their part, the Timberwolves had only landed the top pick once, despite participating in the lottery 22 times in 30 years. Of course, that was in 2015 when they landed All-Star big man Cheap Karl-Anthony Towns Jersey. (Yes, the Wolves had No. 1 pick Cheap Andrew Wiggins Jersey on the roster and he won Rookie of the Year, but that was following a post-draft trade.)

There were several big drops for the Wolves in the lottery throughout the years. Most notably was in 1992, when Minnesota finished the regular season with just 15 wins and had the best odds to win the No. 1 pick and select LSU’s Shaquille O’Neal. But they dropped to No. 3, missing out on Alonzo Mourning at No. 2 as well and ultimately settling for Cheap Christian Laettner Jersey.

The next year, the Wolves had the second-best odds but fell to No. 5 while Chris Webber went first. Even the No. 2 through No. 4 picks (Shawn Bradley, Anfernee Hardaway, and Jamal Mashburn) all had better careers than Cheap Isaiah Rider Jersey, who went to Minnesota at No. 5.

Again in 1994, the Wolves were tied for the second-best odds but fell to No. 4, missing out on Glenn Robinson, Jason Kidd, and Grant Hill — the latter two Hall-of-Famers and Robinson a two-time All-Star.

And the beat went on throughout much of the 1990s, with the Wolves’ one significant draft victory being the selection of Cheap Kevin Garnett Jersey at No. 5 overall in 1995.

Now that Minnesota finally has another crack at the No. 1 pick, it’s worth going back and looking at what the historical hit rate of the top selection has been. While there are several notable busts, having the No. 1 selection has obviously been advantageous.

Let’s start with the players who came nowhere near matching expectations.
Floyd Little, NFL (1967-1975)

Little was a star running back during his college and NFL days, earning three All-America selections while at Syracuse University and retiring as the NFL’s seventh-leading rusher in 1975. He was also a five-time Pro Bowler.

Kolbe Cathedral (Bridgeport)

Cheap Chris Smith Jersey, NBA (1992-1995)

After his career at UConn, Smith was selected in the second round (34th overall) of the 1992 NBA Draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves

Law (Milford)

Nick Newell, MMA (2009-present)

Newell is under contract and fighting in Bellator MMA as a lightweight.

Andrew Wiggins had a big smile on his face after the Golden State Warriors won a nail-biter over the Toronto Raptors on Sunday, 106-105, at Chase Center. Who can blame him? The Dubs have won four of their last five games after struggling out of the gates in the 2020-21 NBA season.

Speaking after his team escaped with the one-point win, a visibly cheery Wiggins opened up about being the happiest he has been in his seven-year pro career so far:

Interesting answer from Wiggins — on if this is happiest he’s been in career: “For sure. We’re winning. Everyone’s happy. We’re getting after it. And I feel like we’re only getting better. We have so much room to grow. So by the end result, I feel like we’re going to be great.”

The 25-year-old Canadian added that Golden State will surely be a lot stronger when injured superstar Klay Thompson returns next year. Right now, Wiggins just wants to hold the fort in Thompson’s absence.

After a slow start in his first full year in Oakland, Wiggins has certainly elevated his play over the last couple of games. It’s no coincidence that the Warriors are finally winning now that he is playing better. The 6-foot-7 swingman played big for the Dubs against the Raptors, pouring in 17 points on 7-of-17 shooting from the field and 3-of-10 from 3 to go along with four assists, two rebounds, and four blocks.

Apart from his scoring, it was his much-improved effort on the defensive end that was key to their victory. Wiggins had the task of defending Raptors forward Pascal Siakam on the final possession of the game. The former Rookie of The Year winner stood his ground and did a commendable job, forcing Siakam to miss what could have been the game-winner:

Before moving to Oakland, Wiggins endured years of losing with the Minnesota Timberwolves. While the former top overall pick has never been considered a total bust, he certainly has been a disappointment in his career.

While he obviously still has his flaws, it looks like Cheap Andrew Wiggins Jersey has found his home and is enjoying playing basketball once more.

By hitting a 3-pointer on Wednesday in Dallas against the Mavericks, Timberwolves wing Andrew Wiggins passed Cheap Anthony Peeler Jersey mark of 465 for most 3-pointers in team history.

With this 3, Andrew Wiggins became the all-time leader in team history for 3-pointers made.

Peeler hit his 465 3-pointers in 379 games over six seasons (1997-2003) with the Wolves. Wiggins has done so in 417 games since being drafted in 2014-15.

Pan the camera to Anthony Peeler talking about how many 3-pointers he’d make in today’s game.

The 2019-20 season has been a career-altering season so far for Wiggins. His 2.3 3-pointers made per game are a career-high and a 0.7 increase from last season. Wiggins is shooting 34.3 percent from deep, up a percent from his season average.

Wiggins’ teammate Cheap Karl-Anthony Towns Jersey is right behind Wiggins and Peeler with 457 made 3-pointers. Towns has done that in just 340 games. His 3.8 3-pointers made in 2019-20 is not only a career-high but a mark that ranks second in the entire league behind only James Harden. This is your reminder that Karl-Anthony Towns is 7-feet tall.

Minnesota Timberwolves star Cheap Karl-Anthony Towns Jersey on Friday said that he has tested positive for COVID-19.

The diagnosis is especially hard for Towns, whose mother, Jacqueline Cruz-Towns, died at 59 on April 13 from complications of COVID-19. She had dealt with the virus for a month.

Towns said before the season that six other family members have also died from complications of the virus.

Towns: ‘Hardened, humbled’ after COVID deaths
“Prior to tonight’s game, I received yet another awful call that I tested positive for COVID,” Towns said in a statement shared on social media. “I will immediately isolate and follow every protocol. I pray every day that this nightmare of a virus will subside and I beg everyone to continue to take it seriously by taking all the necessary precautions. …

“It breaks my heart that my family, and particularly my father and sister continue to suffer from the anxiety that comes along with this diagnosis as we know all too well what the end result could be. To my niece and nephew … I promise you I will not end up in a box next to grandma and I will beat this.”

Minnesota announced earlier that its Friday night game against the Memphis Grizzlies had been postponed because of contact tracing in the Timberwolves’ organization.

Gersson Rosas, the team’s president of basketball operations, said during a news conference Friday that the organization has had two positive tests — including Towns — over the past two days and that one player is in the league’s contact tracing protocols.

Cheap Ricky Rubio Jersey and Juancho Hernangomez were listed as out on Thursday’s injury report for health and safety protocols.

“It’s heartbreaking,” Rosas said of Towns’ diagnosis. “It’s a lesson for all of us. Basketball is a microcosm of society right now and you can do the right things — our protocol has been strong. Our staff has done an unbelievable job of making sure we test, we mask, we follow protocol. But this virus is powerful and its creative.

“… Karl is the most important part of this organization,” Rosas added. “What he’s gone through, what Karl Sr. has gone through — it couldn’t be more heartbreaking.”

Towns, 25, missed six games this season with a wrist injury but returned to the court last week. He’s averaging 22 points, 12.5 rebounds and 4.3 assists in four games.
